It’s so cold in New York today that it begs the question: where would I rather be? Although I certainly wouldn’t turn down a Caribbean vacation right now, my first instinct was, perhaps unsurprisingly, to teleport myself to Paris. A tiny, cozy hotel room at the Hotel du Petit Moulin, a big bowl of soup, and a fresh and crusty baguette (the piccola, to be exact–much better than the ordinaire) from my favorite bakery, Coquelicot (to which I was first directed by Clotilde Dusoulier’s blog).

Since teleportation, as of now, isn’t available to me, I will have to approximate the experience in my own tiny, cozy apartment with homemade macaroni and cheese, a bottle of wine, and a few girlfriends. As for the perfect baguette, it’s an ongoing search; my current favorite comes from the Corrado bakery at Grand Central Market, but comes in a distant second to Coquelicot’s piccola.
I welcome suggestions on how to find a great baguette in NYC.

Nothing I have had in NYC comes close to Paris, but the best in NYC in my humble opinion is Almondine, in DUMBO. Does Brooklyn count?

Balthazar Bakery’s is very good.
