Grand Central Market

For months now, I’ve been lamenting the lack of gourmet food stores between my job, in Midtown, and my apartment, in Murray Hill. Sometimes, whether I’m having guests or just feeling indulgent, I want nice bread and cheese to bring home–except that all of the shops that come to mind are downtown. Imagine, then, my delight upon discovering the market at Grand Central. I realize this isn’t exactly a secret source, but it has somehow escaped me until now; so, for anyone else who is unaware, here you go. Use the door on Lexington between 41st and 42nd, near Starbucks. On my first trip, I stopped by the Murray’s counter and got a heavy, crusty boule at Corrado. There is also a spice vendor, desserts, vegetables, fresh flowers–I cannot adequately express my excitement about this newfound resource.

Grand Central Market sounds wonderful! I’ll have to remember it for my next NYC visit. You might be interested in a new blog by Ann of A Chicken in Every Granny Cart. It’s called The Granny Cart, and it features various NYC shops, restaurants and markets that she and “the Boy” frequent.
