Challah at Blue Ribbon Bakery

One of my favorite bread baskets in the city can be found at Blue Ribbon Bakery, on Downing Street. They give you three different kinds to try, including an amazing, doughy challah. While maintaining a lightness, it’s quite rich and chewy–I could probably have eaten an entire loaf. Another slice that I thought was good, if slightly misplaced on a dinner table, was studded with golden raisins and slightly darker in color–if I had to guess, I assert that it’s a wheat pullman? Tasty, but maybe better suited for breakfast (especially thickly sliced and toasted).

As a side note, the lower level of Blue Ribbon is so cool–distressed brick walls, tables in alcoves, right beside the ovens and shelves of bread loaves! Would be a really fun place to go with a large group (added bonus–reservations are for parties of 5 or more only, so no waiting!).
